About South Ohio SWE

What is South Ohio SWE?

The South Ohio SWE Section is a 501(3)c subordinate of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Our section encompasses the Greater Cincinnati-Dayton area of Southwest Ohio and we serve the professional members in this area.  Members of South Ohio SWE come from a wide variety of area employers, including several Fortune 500 companies.

SWE is an inclusive organization that supports women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We also have tools from educators in those fields from the K-12 level and up. All women with technical backgrounds are encouraged to participate in SWE events regardless of their title.

South Ohio SWE hosts a variety of events in the following areas.

The networking and social events are geared towards helping members connect with one another, as well as other area professionals and leaders. This is a great opportunity to hear about upcoming events, socialize, and have a fun experience! Examples of past events include happy hours, metalworking, pottery making, and a museum scavenger hunt.

Professional development events are intended to provide members exclusive opportunities to grow professionally and as an individual, helping members achieve the careers they desire. Examples of past events include professional etiquette workshops, goal setting seminars, listen & learn lectures, and site tours.

A major goal of SWE is to help give back to our communities and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Outreach events are geared towards connecting with area students (both girls and boys) to see engineering and technical careers as appealing and valuable. We have other volunteer events for our members, such as supporting area non-profits that provide professional clothing to people trying to enter the workforce.
