Outreach Chair
Dr. Deborah D. Whitis
Dr. Deb Whitis is the Outreach Chair of the South Ohio SWE section. She has been the Executive Chief Consulting Engineer at GE Aerospace since 2019, and has worked at GE since 1995. She has led GE Aerospace take Your Child to Work Day events, coordinated GE AirCamp sessions for girls, participated in GE Volunteers Girl Scout Engineering badge events, and served on an advisory committee for iSPACE as a GE Corporate member. She enjoys connecting educators, students, and STEM professionals to drive engagement of children in STEM.
Deb received a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Virginia, an M.S. in Materials Science and engineering from the University of Cincinnati, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineer from the University of Illinois. She served as the Outreach Chair for the University of Illinois SWE Collegiate section from 1992-1993, and for the University of Virginia Materials Science Department from 2000-2001. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, hiking, and traveling with her husband and two sons.
Membership Chair
Alex Kramer
Alex is the membership chair for the South Ohio SWE section. She is a project manager for an architecture and engineering firm that specializes in healthcare design.
Alex graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and currently lives in Cincinnati, OH. She enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
SEEKING:
Additional Chairs!
We are always looking for members who are interested in getting more involved to serve as chairs.
We are currently in urgent need of a communications chair. The communications chair would help maintain the South Ohio SWE website and be involved in the assembly of our newsletter, which goes out every 1-2 months.
We also are seeking a marketing chair. The marketing chair would help maintain our social media sites, as well as help advertise our section’s events and activities.
